New extensions for registered trademarks

The different stages of registration

Before new extensions become available for registration, there are a few stages that allow registered trademarks to register their name before anyone else.

Sunrise

The Sunrise period is the period of time before members of the public can register a domain. It is compulsory whenever a new extension comes out and entitles the owners of registered trademarks to register the domain names corresponding to their trademark before others can. To be included in the Sunrise period, the registered trademark must be signed up to the Trademark Clearinghouse. Inclusion in the SUNRISE period is subject to payment of a fixed fee that will be added to the cost of registering the domain name once its allocation has been confirmed.
